the weekly email from elder russell
hello everyone. oh boy do i have some updates. well, lets start out with the bike situation. there is a guy in our ward, brandon walker, who is amazing with fixing bikes and told the missionaries that he would work on theirs for free. well, i had some issues with my bike so we gave him a call. we took the bike over and he totally fixed and tuned up all things. he said that my bike was in some bad shape....i had 5 brokesn spokes and my rim was bent. when he checked my brakes, the first thing he said was, "how are you still alive?" haha, it was funny. so our bikes are basically perfect. he replaced the spokes for free and all EVERYTHING. he is helping us out a lot with the missionary work, too.
so, as for mark ferrell....he is doing well. he is reading and praying, but says that he is still awaiting his answer. me and elder kicker got to teach him. it was just like old times. we had a killer time together.
now let me tell you about this family that we have been teaching....and i think somehow i have failed to mention them in past letters. well, there is a family....the Gelormini's, who are taking the lessons. their daughter, who is 21 and gorgeoous hehe, is dating a returned missionary. she wanted to know what the mormons wer all about, so she told her parents, and now they are all taking the lessons.
as for the interest level, mr. gelormini is really interested. he knows A WHOLE LOT about religion and the mormons. he is a non practicing catholic who took seminary. they have fed him TONS of anti material, so he, in the past has had tons of questions regarding things like The Adam-God Theory and Elephants in the BoM. usually, his questions are all intellectual and he feels like he needs to get an explanation. but this last appt, he finally realized, that it ALL comes down to whether or not the BoM is True and if Joseph Smith was really a prophet.....he said he has been praying, but no answer yet,
but get this....we told him and his family that we would be fasting for them to help them receive their witness, as we were explaining this, the wife says, " dont fast for us, we dont have intentions on changing religions, we just wanted to know some info on the church." and then, mr. gelormini interrupts her and says, "speak for yourself, honey, some of us ARE considering this" it was sooooo cool. and he said that he is going join in the fast so to see if he'll get his answer.
we talked about alma the younger and how he was trying to destroy the church, and he was visited by an angel and ALL that stuff, but when he recounts his story, he says he came to know all was true through much fasting and prayer, not just because an angel appeared to him. he understands the BoM real deeply....and he said that he REALLY wants all of this to be true, because he knows what this really means if it all is true.
we know we have made serious progress when mr. gelormini, a catholic, now refers to the Great Apostasy as an actual thing, and not just a claim! this last appt, the usual fellowshipper/friend was out of town, so we brought another one who is very smart, but understands that evidence is nothing without a spiritual witness, so it went great. the member we brought is a doctor and mr gelormini is radiologist....they got along great.
mr gelormini works every sunday, so right now he cant come to church, but he said come mid march, he should be able to come. please pray for the gelormini's...his first name is RUSSELL! though he is really the one who is progressing, we know that if he were to make the decision to get baptized, his family would soon follow!
